Re: Commentators and Pundits
I mainly listen to the radio as TV pundits (Neville aside) are pretty terrible.
I'd say Andy Reid is probably my favourite pundit at the moment. Rob Green is a very good co commentator too.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
Ally McCoist is about the only one I don't actively dislike.

McManaman is absolutely terrible. He adds no additional insight at all to the lead commentator and just says 'yeah, exactly.' a lot. Also sniffs and breathes far too loudly over the mic, which is pretty disgusting. Like Carragher he does nothing to hide his bias for Liverpool during commentary- even on other games, which is extraordinarily unprofessional. Carragher is dreadful. Just openly biased all the time. Openly sulks when a result is bad for Liverpool and once refused to name a man of the match because Liverpool had just lost.

Robbie Savage is the absolute worst of the worst. Unbearable when commentating on Wales. He's like a moronic pissed up fan they've given a microphone to,

Re: Commentators and Pundits
Commentator wise... I like Johnathan Pearce and Guy Mowbray. Pundits, Paul Merson (says it how it is) and Dean Ashton.

Worst pundit has to be Darren Bent.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
Any pundit that that says "rules" should be sacked.

Laws of the Game and competition rules a very distinct difference which they should understand if they are to critique.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
I've also surprised myself in not minding Steve McManaman too much... he says some reasonably interesting things but you do get the impression that he's only half interested in the football sometimes.

Ally McCoist and Dean Ashton (on Talksport) are the best IMO.

Beglin and waddle biased as fuk

Re: Commentators and Pundits
Ignore them, all of them. Turn on the stream when the game commences, make a cup of tea at half time, turn off the stream at the game’s end.

And never ever tune in to talksport.

Instead if you need well written, insightful, balanced football related stuff just follow WHO’s football forum.

Hoddle is knowledgeable but gets a bit boring, Carragher is stealing a fucking living.

He doesn’t do much football but I like Rupert Bell.

Carlton emm arrr em Cole will never makea good pundit.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
Jim Beglin is the best co-comm around these days, not only does he generally talk sense but he also does his homework and is fully researched before games, unlike many. Tony Gale is also a good co-comm.

Neville are Carragher are the best pundits.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
Vickie Sparks on BBC is the worst commentator of all. Knowledgeless, verbose and squeaky in equal parts.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
From times gone by Trevor Francis should get a shout for some all appalling co-commentary.

Remember one game where a ball whipped in clearly hit a defender and went off almost at a right angle. For some bizarre reason known only to himself Francis insisted it should've been a goal kick. Even when the replay showed it even more clearly (not that it was neefed), Francis carried on saying "goal kick"

It was tru!y mental, like his first thoughts were final despite all evidence to the contrary.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
As for match commentators I like G Neville as long as he isnt doing Man U. When he first started I think he made a real effort not to show his loyalties but thats slipped. Carragher doesnt even bother to try.
I think the best of Sky's match commentators are Andy Hinchcliffe & Don Goodman but they get Championship games or the 'little teams' in the PL when the big names cant be bothered.
Both were decent players but not big stars which seems the only reason not to promote them.

Probably my favourite combination is Jermaine Jenas & Jamie Redknapp when Spurs are losing.
With the women apart from not having relevant experience to tell us how they would deal with Premier league games (ie they wouldnt get a retired League 2 male player on) they try and talk too much.
Karen Carney isnt the worst of them but Emma Hayes OBEse just wont shut up.

But none are worse than Robbie Savage who should have a hand grenade put in his mouth every time he opens it. Even more annoying as a commentator than he was a player. Which is some achievement

Re: Commentators and Pundits
I really can't stand Carragher how SKY kept him on after the spitting incident is beyond me.
Garry Neville for me talks a lot of sense.
As for women Hmmm I'll leave it there.

Re: Commentators and Pundits
I like Neville and Keane and to be honest don't mind Hoddle. Tony Gale was always good as well. Prefer those who just come in when they need to rather than just talk all the time. Haven't got a major issue with female commentators but the voice sometimes just destroys the knowledge. The one on MOTD just sounds like Quint running his fingers down a blackboard in JAWS! Coleman, Maskell and Allis were the Pro's. albeit not necessarily football.
